Interesting point.
No doubt there are a lot of old bridges and roads out there that are carrying a lot more weight and traffic then originally anticipated when they were first put up.
(And, of course, especially for many of the older spans, progressive metal fatigue, decay, etc., have further reduced their safety margins.)
At this point, I kinda wish we hadn't BLOWN a Trillion or so of BORROWED MONEY on Iraq.
We, as a nation, are likely falling further and further behind our commercial competitors (China being just one) with their newer infrastructures.
Given the choice of GOING INTO DEBT to: A) rebuild infrastructure important for job creation in America, or B) build infrastructure in 'Iraq'... I believe the American public would overwhelmingly support infrastructure in America.
(ESPECIALLY since we are talking about additions to the national debt, that get passed down to the kids!) |
