What is the difference between the current missions in Bosnia and Afghanistan?

Since there are only a little over 31K foreign troops in Afghanistan - a little over half American - I don't think we're going to "throw the entire American treasury away" there, do you?

A better comparison would be the first Gulf War under Bush 1. It was thought out in advance, the mission was defined, we accomplished the Mission and then we got out.

Excuse me? Lets not rewrite history. We did not get out. We kept troops in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia till the beginning of the current war, protecting those countries from re-invasion (Saddam actually massed troops on Kuwaits border in .. about 1995 or 6 or so if I remember), enforcing the nofly zones and sanctions, periodically mounting bombing campaigns against Iraq, and btw being shot at by Iraqi anti-aircraft guns periodically.

Bush continues to stick his finger in the eye of Iran

Actually its Iran which sticks its finger in the eyes of the international community and us. Does Bush lead crowds of "neocons" in chants of "Death to Iran". No, but the leader of Iran leads crowds in chants of "Magbar Amrika". Theres a youtube of Achmadinejad giving such a speech recently in Tehran doing exactly that and callilng for the downfall of the Great Satan (us).
