I was thinking as the $CAD went up, the distributions paid in $USD would also go up.

if WTI in USD goes up faster than CAD/USD, then the cash flow will go up in CAD and even more in USD. but if CAD/USD goes up faster than WTI/USD, their CAD-based profits (and also USD-based profits) will likely fall, unless they are hedged on the currency front.

it's been a bit counterintuitive since WTI has been so strong these past few years, that it seemed like payouts were rising in part due to strong CAD. but COS explains very explicitly that strong CAD is bad for their c/f.

but...ok, I'm wrong.

everybody's wrong sometimes. the key point is having the flexibility to recognize it and adapt one's thinking. not everybody can do that. Message 22116477
