Hi Koan,
I too know the area we speak of very well. Lived in it all my life. The problem with CA is not enough land is in private hands. When the property is yours, every day is Earth Day. The concept of stewardship comes to mind. Different world views I imagine.
There are plenty of open areas to walk in, you just have to ask. My husband and I have found land owners to be the most accommodating people we've met, even when the sign says "No Trespassing". We hunt, fish and backpack almost anywhere we've taken the time to get to know the land owners.
As for loving Feinstein and Boxer, that's wonderful. The world needs more love. I however have nothing but contempt for a woman(Feinstein) who does her utmost to take the means of self-defense from us peasants, yet keeps a loaded handgun in her nightstand. Boxer is not as smart or accomplished as her fellow Sen. She's just a run of the mill Socialist elitist, snob.
But I think we can agree the CA desert has a beauty all it's own. Yet I'm sure you live on one the most wonderful pieces of real estate on Earth.
Cheers
