I like the story but the above isn't quite true. While it's true running on diesel they're noisy but while on batteries they're harder to find than a nuke.....

Partially true.. it all depends on the type of propellers they are using. Older propeller technology causes cavitation (air bubbles in the wake) which is easily picked up and identified. But it's the newer low cavitation props that make them so hard to find.

The Germans are actually using Fuel Cells in some of their subs, rather than batteries. This gives them long running time submerged, and they have awesome propeller designs.. VERY HARD to detect.
