Nothing feels greater to see someone finally giving Microsoft a good spanking!!

As a developer I have been wasting my time over the past 2 weeks trying to make our project work with the new SDK for Java as released (its beta version) by Microsoft which as advertised by Microsoft is fully JDK1.1 compatible! On top of that if you go to Microsoft's web site for Visual J++ development there are statements in bold and with big letters stating that developers can tune Visual J++ to work with the latest SDK for Java (which again it says it in big capital letters JDK 1.1 compatible). So I downloaded the latest sdk and followed the instruction as told. Then tried to build our huge Java JDK1.1 based project. After spending about a week to finally make everything compiled (with pain!), we tried using the J++ development environment for debugging purposes (after all and to be fair J++ is a nice environment if it works as advertised!). To our surprise we realized that no debugging can be done and that development environment is as good as a dead cat! So I called Microsoft support this morning (and we have a premium contract agrrement with them so we are supposed to get special attention!), after explaining the problem to them, I was told that: oh, sorry, but we dont have the development environment working with JDK 1.1, yet!!). I then ask them why your web site advertises such, and I, of course, do not get a prompt response! Meanwhile we wasted about 2 weeks of our development effort!

Up to this point I believed Sun could actually benefit from Microsoft's push for Java (in any way form or shape), however, I have come to believe that Sun needs to do a little punishment to make sure Microsoft is under control. So this latest news of of Sun taking Microsoft to court is truly a joyful news! I am now more convinced than ever before that Microsoft's effort in not following Sun 100%, will harm them over the long term and especially with their so called Windows 98, and NT 5.0, and I do truly feel bad and sorry for all those who are paying $130+ for MSFT shares at this time! In time they will come to realize the arnings and revenue will no longer be there to support the price they are paying today!

Addi Jamshidi
