Both the drop and the rebound probably only deserved very minor coverage. The percentage change isn't all that great, and stocks , or even market indexes are volatile.

Which isn't to disagree with the point in your post. Little coverage for each, or a lot of coverage for each, they probably deserve a similar amount of coverage either way.

Unrelated side point - I originally misspelled volatile. My browser has a spell checker but it couldn't find the right spelling, and I couldn't remember it, so I googled the word. Google seems to be the best spell checker I have easy access to, it will catch certain types of spelling errors that baffle conventional spell checkers, and give you an alternative.

I suppose with very commonly misspelled words it might have a weakness where you have more than one alternative, and only one is correct, that will probably be the one with the most hits, but I suppose not always.
