Museums to nowhere

Don Surber blog

While some Democrats blame the Iraq war for a “lack” of transportation funds to fix bridges, my Washington bureau points out that senators are diverting transportation funds from bridges:

<<< Democrat Mary Landrieu: $1 million for the Baton Rouge Riverfront Development and Levee Pedestrian and Bike Path

Democrats Dick Durbin and Barack Obama: $3 million for Illinois bike trails

Democrat Harry Reid: $200,000 for a Post Office Museum in Las Vegas, which as everyone knows really needs the boost to tourism this taxpayer-funded boondoggle will provide

Democrats Joe Biden and Tom Carper $500,000 for HIV testing in Delaware.

Republican Orrin Hatch $2000,000 for a parking garage in Provo

Democrat James Webb and Republican John Warner $200,000 to turn the Phoenix Bank of Nansemond building into a museum.

Democrat Durbin (again) $250,000 for a museum in Peoria.

Democrat Robert C. Byrd $200,000 for a multicultural museum and community center in Beckley, one of the least diverse communities in the nation. >>>

All this money comes from the 18.4 cents-a-gallon gasoline tax, money that is supposed to build the nation’s roads and bridges.

Instead of bridges, we get bike trails, museums and more crap to be named after Robert C. Byrd. I have the perfect boondoggle: The Robert C. Byrd Museum of Bike Trails.
