The interesting development at NHK in Japan? Is it the $1000/mo cable service? 8kx4k pixels(16:9 aspect ratio, 60 fps progressive mode, 22,2 multichannel sound) by Mpeg4/h.264(16 processing units ?DSP? for encoding and decoding) using camera, transmit to satellite and download by travelling wave tube(21 ghz) to set-top box. Cable can use high rise towers to transmit by travelling wave tube(line of sight service in whole town) too? Wireless solution? So, 10gbps solution can be directed to develop transmission by travelling wave tubes of higher frequencies yet? This development will be much cheaper in ten years? NHK has demonstrated from camera to set-top box, but not thru travelling wave tube transmission. Footnote: Traveling wave vacuum tube is two terminal anode to cathode device, using thousands of volts of power supply and can carry many layers of data by edge, QAM and multiplexers.
