What is the investment opportunity in the end of IPv4 address availability? Some analysts think that the pool will shrink to the point that there will be no more IPv4 addresses available before the end of 2010.

Translation of packets has been ruled out and current standards call for devices to support both the IPv4 and IPv6 stacks. Right now only high end switches support both protocols. I looked up what switches HP has that support IPv6:

What equipment supports IPv6?
I made this list for HP switches only:
5400zl
6200yl
5400zl
3500yl
2900-24G

The least expensive one currently costs around $3000. their current chassis switches do not list IPv6 support. The subject of premesis routing devices will be left for another day.

Current PC operating systems support IPv6 stacks. Microsoft Windows 2003 Server, XP, Mobile 5, and Vista (as well as Server 2008) all support IPv6.
