I think your questions could be well answered using the EW dogma - All world events depend on the same underlying dynamic of the public mood, which moves in Elliottian patterns. The index charts are merely the most graphic and visible reflection of those moves.

MC advises to be prepared to turn on a dime with regards to charts. No disagreement, but I'd like to point out that "Fundamentals" can change just as wickedly as charts. Very recently the talk of the town was the abundance of global liquidity, and its unprecedented "depth", and about how it was guaranteed to keep propelling the markets "to da moon". And what happened? Merely in a matter of days everyone is hysterical about the "liquidity crunch". LOL.
