Because if he does, he may actually have good - independent - reasons for being a Republican.

I've asked him. What I told you is what he told me. Having fallen into the Republican Party, he now revels in it. I don't think it suited him at all when he was younger. It seemed a mismatch. He was a union guy, gentle and easy going, never in the military, working class, on unemployment as much as he worked. The last decade or so the GOP fits him better. He has morphed into a Republican. He grooves on O'Reilly. He writes every day in his "memoirs" notebook, which I have not read but understand to be an ongoing anti-Clinton rant. I avoid the oral anti-Clinton rant by giving him the evil eye every time he starts one and he graciously desists. He's a sweet old guy.

He can discuss individual issues thoughtfully and independently sometimes but then he shifts into talk-radio/PfP mode prattling on and on the usual damned-Democrat mantras. He's 93. I guess prattling is to be expected.
