Longtime investors will remember that NOKIA gave up on making IS-95 chips in the late 1990's. Public reason was, "doh! we just remembered that this market will never be big." Private reason was, they couldn't get them to work reliably, despite getting some help from Q to make them work.

Since we know that this time, the market will be big, to quote a very famous detective, "How often have I said to you that when you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth?"

A similar thing happened with TI and IS-2000. They got six months behind, and calculated that they would never catch up, end of story, shut down the division.

It appears now that TI is falling behind in WCDMA shipments vs. Q. Must I quote that famous detective again ??
