Nokia and cdmaOne

UT,

<< Longtime investors will remember that NOKIA gave up on making IS-95 chips in the late 1990's. >>

Any longtime investor who remembers that has faulty recall. Nokia did not "give up on making IS-95 chips in the late 1990's." Their first IS-95 handsets based on their own chipset design manufactured by TI were introduced on Sprint PCS in 1998 and were not good performers. In 2000, at the same time that they commenced development of their cdma2000 1xRTT chipset manufactured for them by TI they did a complete rework of their 'tri-mode' IS-95 cdmaOne chipset and internal and external CDMA antennas.

Cheers
