Here is what is happening, in my opinion.
Wall Street is exuberant over the advertising of IE 4.0 and bandwidths such as 1 million copies of IE 4.o was downloaded/shipped on the first 2 days, etc.. So they figure Microsoft has taken over the browser and therefore internet/web applications and the technology used to build such applications. This is what I call the most ridiculous illusion of the 90's held by naive investors! Developers (let me put it this way - Software vendors) will not use Microsoft's SDK for Java to develop internet/Web applications if it does not comply with Sun's JDK 1.1 100%. Reasons:

1. Microsoft does not own the Java technology therefore no vendor will be willing to bet on them since Sun may at any time pull the plug on them, leaving their SDK for Java based application absolutely useless!

2. Even if Sun does not pull the plug, SDK for Java is platform specific with the extensions that Microsoft had made to it, thus the idea of write once, run everywhere will not work with Microsoft's SDK for Java.

So I ask, if there are no applications for IE 4.0 what good would that do for having IE 4.0 in the first place?!

The irrational exuberance of Wall Street over Microsoft is nothing but an empty illusion. I do feel pitty for the little old grandma who is talked into putting her money into MSFT shares of $130+! Because the earnings and revenue growth will simply not be there to support the astronomical valuation starting the end of next quarter!
