There's quite a bit of evidence that European people populated the Americas, arguably even before the Asian influx. Some of the most intriguing archeological findings show a very strong influence of Celtic peoples. The theory is that the Caucasian population was too small to survive against the much larger Asian and Melopanesian peoples who came after them.

It's all theory, of course, but there are a number of tales about "red headed warriors" in various indiginous tribal verbal histories. Very un-PC to discuss these things though. <GGG>
