DAVID G. IRELAND JOINS PROGRESS SOFTWARE CORPORATION AS VICE PRESIDENT OF CORE PRODUCTS AND SERVICES
BEDFORD, Mass., Oct. 7, 1997 - Progress Software Corporation, (NASDAQ: PRGS), a leading, worldwide supplier of application development tools, database technology and support services to IS organizations, today announced that David G. Ireland has joined the company as vice president of core products and services. In this role, Ireland is responsible for the development and product management groups that support the PROGRESS and WebSpeed product lines. He will also assume responsibility for technical support and professional services, including consulting and course development and delivery in North America, as well as the European-based technical support centre. Ireland reports to Joseph W. Alsop, president of Progress Software.
"We have created this combination of functions and appointed Dave to head them up so that we are focused for success on the most important aspects of our core business," Alsop said. "Dave's charter is to enhance the profitability and revenue potential of these product lines through product enhancements, new service offerings and improvements in organizational efficiency. Ireland is a 20-year veteran of the software industry and has held various positions at the vice president and general manager levels during that time. Most recently, he held the positions of vice president and general manager of PRISM products and services at Marcam, where he managed services, AS/400 product development and the PROGRESS-based product line. Before that, Ireland spent two years as a senior vice president at Cognos Inc., responsible for the Powerhouse Business Unit, and as vice president of worldwide support and services. Before joining Cognos, Ireland held various executive positions at NYNEX and Cullinet Software.
Ireland earned a bachelor's degree in math and computer science from Richmond College, City University of New York. He and his family reside in Lincoln, Mass. |
