JES'97 - Sony Shows DVD+RW Drive Prototype........ MAKUHARI MESSE, CHIBA, JAPAN, 1997 OCT 7 (NB) -- By Martyn Williams. Sony Corporation [TOKYO:6758] has unveiled a prototype DVD+RW drive, capable of reading DVD-ROM discs and reading and writing to the new Phase-Change ReWritable system, at the 1997 Japan Electronics Show. The new format was announced a month ago and developed by Sony, Philips Electronics NV [AS:PHG], Hewlett Packard Co. [NYSE:HWP], Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation, Ricoh Company Ltd. [TOKYO:7752] and Yamaha Corporation [TOKYO:7951].
