Albert, I am not trying to suggest that any Bell company could offer the service tomorrow. Amati's product comes with a built in POTs splitter. It allows one to have phone/ADSL service. The way phone service is delivered under ADSL does not change.

The data/internet apps flow between the customer and CO ADSL modems. It is a point to point circuit. There is virtually no difference between this and the point to point circuit the phone company "builds" for you when you connect to your ISP or make a phone call.

Ultimately, a circuit is achieved. With the exception of speed and where the telco's choose to place their routers, there is no significant difference between the topology currently deployed by ISPs and what GTE and Pac Bell are doing as near as I can tell.

I am tired and going to bed now. I am not certain I answered your question. Please try again tomorrow if not.

ADSL is not plug and play but niether is the service you get from your ISP. I think that is common sense but maybe it needs said. The ADSL system, as I understand it, does not require a fork lift to implement. That is why I like it.

Cheers,
Daniel
