I could see them remasking for a different L3. But, I don't see them reworking the cache control circuitry for it. That would be a big risk.

I don't see such a complex mid-life kicker for Shanghai, unless Sandtiger gets delayed. A more likely mid-life kicker would be the rumored Montreal core, which was supposedly a dual-die Shanghai in an MCM. AMD didn't show this at their Analysts Day, but that doesn't mean they aren't working on it opportunistically.

Re: Given we haven't heard squat, I don't think ZRAM has panned out for them. At this point, I think it is more likely to show up on a GPU than a CPU.

I think Z-RAM looks rather promising, but not in the near term. That's probably why we haven't heard anything. 2010 might be a better intercept. I've always considered it a long term technology.
