you realize that cache has more to do than the actual cache cells themselves, right...? If you do, then you're already a leg up on Combjelly.

The control logic for L3 is not within the CPU cores themselves. It is either within Northbridge (unlikely), or, more likely, within the L3 block, where the tags appear to be as well. Remember, AMD is going to be selling these chips without L3 as well, so L3 needs to be self contained and segregated.
