RESEARCH ALERT - UBS raises Pfizer to buy

NEW YORK, Oct 6 (Reuter) - UBS Securities said it raised Pfizer Inc (PFE) to buy from
hold, citing optimism about several new drugs expected to be
launched by the company over the next year.

said new drugs expected to be launched in the next year include Trovan, a quinolone
antibiotic; Viagra for impotence; Zeldox for
schizophrenia and Dofetilide for arrhythmia.
said despite relatively strong fundamentals and 14 percent earnings growth in the
first half of 1997, Pfizer's second-half earnings will
advance ''only single digits'' due to selling, general and administrative expenses and
research and development costs.
