This post by Paul seems to fit my scenario from a few days ago quite nicely and obviously supports your statement: "The breakdown of our global leadership is in full swing".

Run on U.S. Treasury Bills Spurred by Subprime Paper Contagion
Message 23798619

Investors are scooping up U.S. Treasury bills like few times in history as an expanding credit crunch makes it hard for companies to roll over short-term debt.

It is getting a lot more difficult to purchase treasuries at decent rates if at all. Where will the FCBs invest to maintain the peg? OR will this force them into a change of policy to let their currencies rise, leading to even greater problems in the financial system?
