Your statement has some points I can easily agree with.

IMO the real problem with your proposal is the American people and politicians. They are not going to stand for any significant delay in giving Iraq back to Iraq.

I stand by my earlier suggestion of three metrics that will determine when enough will be enough.

$500 billion.
5 years of combat in Iraq.
5,000 American lives.

We have attained the first.
March 19, 2008 will be the second.
We are 1,312 from the third. That could be attained anytime with a few (or less) bad days.

I don't think we will need all three...but if we do they are coming.

Of course if the war expands in that same general area, my prediction is out the window. And this will not just be about us withdrawing. It must include our opponents allowing us to withdraw with some honor. We won't allow them to kill large numbers of our troops as they chase us on to USNAV ships in the Gulf.
