It would be a memory slot. They are close to the processor. Usually black plastic with little white locks on each end. Motherboards of that vintage often have the memory slots under the cage where the optical drive is, or at least close. Most motherboards also had 4 memory slots, so you could likely get by with a single 256 meg. SDRAM stick. Maybe $20, probably less. Here is a link.

Even if it is close to the drive cage, you can often put a stick in without removing anything. Just look at the DIMM. It has a slot in it that is off center. If you look at the slot, you will see a plastic key that is off center. Be sure they line up. Lay the plastic locks down and line up the DIMM and press it firmly into the slot until the locks come up and engage the little notches in the sides of the stick.

If it were me, I'd spend the extra $5 and get a 512 meg. stick.
