Nokia's ITC Filing ... Implementation Patents

Ron,

<< Nokia filed an infringement counterclaim there for six GSM/WCDMA/CDMA implementation patents. (I don't think we've learned the actual patent numbers yet.) Today Nokia files an infringement claim for five GSM/WCDMA/CDMA patents ... and the PR wording sounds like they are also implementation patents. >>

Rick Simonson specifically stated in the podcast referenced in their press release that they are implementation patents.

<< I think it's likely it's five of the same six patents. >>

I also think that is likely. While we don't know the actual patent numbers in Nokia's counterclaims against QUALCOMM we do know that the patents asserted in the Eastern District of Texas are for 6 Nokia implementation patents allegedly used in QUALCOMM's MediaFLO and BREW businesses. In Wisconsin, however, it is claiming infringement of six Nokia implementation patents used in Qualcomm GSM/WCDMA and CDMA2000 chipsets that "relate primarily to multi-band/multi-mode technologies, that allow seamless and transparent roaming for consumers, and direct conversion technologies that reduce handset and chipset size, cost and power consumption."

Best,
