8/17/07 update
As the Chinese curse goes, "may you live in interesting times" and surely there were interesting times on Wall Street the past few days. But you wouldn't guess it from the Nasdaq Biotech Index change for the week, which closed Friday down -.28% YTD (vs. down -.36% YTD a week ago). The week's performance of the Charity Contest portfolios gives even less reason for concern. At Friday's close the Contest median was down -9.02% YTD (vs. down -11.47%% YTD a week ago). Have biotechs somehow acquired immunity to the subprime and other virulent maladies causing so much trouble throughout the financial markets? Personally, I'm not ready to make that bet.
At week's end, 9 of the 31 Contest portfolios were in the black YTD with the same 9 of 31 beating the NBI.
It's ICEBERG back in the Contest lead, with his portfolio's 22.04% YTD gain besting RCMAC's 18.38% gain.
Below is the Top Ten list on 8/17/07:

8/17/07
Rank Name Total
1 ICEBERG 22,043
2 RCMAC 18,376
3 FRED 16,701
4 TECHNET 16,678
5 FILOF 13,251
6 BIOFISH 11,264
7 MOPGCW 9,599
8 ROBERT 8,636
9 WILDER 2,845
10 SCARAM -660
