We're somewhere between 20 and 30 years behind European socialism Maybe, maybe not. Our republic is older than Europe's set. Most of the republics of Europe are less than a century old. The French revolution was contemporaneous with ours, yet they've gone down three bad roads (mob rule, dictatorship, socialism). American exceptionalism and individualism still count for something by way of inoculation.
