I am not sure what the intrigues are all about behind the scenes, but whatever is going on can be the demise of this thread if we are not careful, IMHO.
It seems like the most successful threads on SI are those in which people are up-front and open. Starting out on SI, and it seems like a hundred years ago, it was tempting to flame others (I learned that term when my son pointed out that when you castigate others in public on the web, you frequently end up being burned yourself), but that is just a way to try to make yourself look better and the other person look bad. Fortunately, I have seen little if any of that here. If it is going on, it is really a shame.
This is a great thread. I have learned so much from it and find it really enjoyable to read others posts and to post back to them. While I have been asked by others to be the moderator, and it would be an honor to do that... it might be a good idea to get more of a consensus before moving ahead with such a change. The previous moderator's profile says she has not posted since 2002 - a dormant account. And maybe that is why the change in moderators is needed by SI.
And while we are about it, maybe we can put together a list of ideas from those of you who post here. That way, whomever takes over will have an idea of some of the ideas, interests and directions from the people who post here would like to see. And to take it to the next level, perhaps certain of us would volunteer to work on projects associated with those interests?
Well enough said for now. What does everyone think? I know I would like to hear from you.
For my part, maybe we could start some contests to see who could find the shortest recipes, the longest recipes, the weirdest recipes using unusual ingredients, the spiciest recipe and so on? And maybe would could put some links on the thread head to neat sites to visit. Those are but a few of the ideas I have floating around my mind.
