Brush Creek Hires Expert Diamond Consultant, Rohtert Calls Company Property 'Most Prospective' for Unconventional Diamonds in North America

GRASS VALLEY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 7, 1997--Brush Creek Mining a (NASDAQ:BCMD) Effective October 14, 1997, Brush Creek Mining
and Development Company Inc. (NASDAQ:BCMD - news) is pleased to announce that it has retained the services of William R. Rohtert, who will contribute his talents as a consulting geologist and gemologist for their prospective diamond properties in California.

Previously, Rohtert served as the Manager of Gemstones for the Kennecott Exploration Company, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Rio Tinto organization. During the past six years, Rohtert's involvement with diamonds has primarily focused on the development of new exploration models for unconventional sources, with
extensive research and reconnaissance conducted in the Sierra Nevada province of California, and the coastal foldbelts of southeastern Australia, as well as the Urals Mountains of Russia. He has also performed comprehensive investigations of conventional kimberlite and lamproite diamond pipes on three continents.

Rohtert's primary responsibility will be to assist the Company in the technical evaluation of the diamond potential at those properties within the Company's portfolio, and to represent Company interests in negotiations with prospective joint-venture partners. Rohtert stated to the press, ''Based upon my experience, the lands
controlled by the Company within the LaPorte district comprise the most prospective ground for the discovery of an unconventional diamond lode deposit in North America.''

Brush Creek controls nine gold mines in the Alleghany/Downieville area of Northern California.
