bdog--Well, Spinco might be in their sights as one way out of the mess, but another factor you mention--less reliance on outside counsel--might result in hiring a larger in-house legal staff, no matter whether Spinco materializes or not. Increasing in-house legal staff is not necessarily the most effective solution. Corporate lawyers as a group tend to be less astute and hardworking than those in outside law firms. In fact, the lawyers who end up working for corporations are often those who didn't perform well enough to make partner in their law firm. Or, some who chose corporate lawyering instead of a firm do so because the work hours are more regular and stress tends to be less. It will be interesting to see how Carol Lam fares as QCOM pursues its legal issues. Art
