Do you think it hasn't happened? When Britain got the whiff of all that newly-discovered, shiny gold the imperial war machine was there in a flash. But gold is of little importance today so Britain has largely lost interest in the region.

Anyway, what point are you trying to make, if any? That the cohesive forces which unite the Iraqis against the US are greater than the internecine forces which cause conflict between the various Islamic sects?
