Lets say this wasn't about animals. If he was convicted of say armed robbery, and plea bargained it down to a 3 year sentence.

What should happen

1 - The NFL should suspended him for life (or for long enough that his career would be over)

2 - There should be no suspension for life (but maybe one for a defined period) but the teams shouldn't consider hiring him, or if they consider it they should reject it quickly.

3 - If a team wants to deal with an ex-con its their business. Maybe there would be a suspension, but if there is it would be short enough that in theory he could play again, even if the layoff a few years would put his career at risk. Some team might give him a minimum plus incentives contract and if they do, it shouldn't shock anyone.

Would your answer be the same for Vick's crime and a more "normal" crime?
