I think his grasp on the current goings on at gift make his actions about high risk that much higher. Who better to know the "inside" stuff than him. IMO anyone not playing with OPM will be losers. Didn't his family need to eat for this past 2 yrs? Couldn't his wife work, why take half the gain when "victory " is so close? I think this stink, and am sorry you can't smell it.
