Hate to tell you, but I don't see a problem either. Not that I'd push for either. When I was young, we said a little prayer in a school class. You might have too. It doesn't brainwash people for life - recall Lane mentioning being in catechism when young, but now she's an agnostic or atheist.
My favorite story was when my outspoken atheist son, CW, came home with an assignment in AP English, a report on Henry Miller. I was a little surprised, mentioning that he was a somewhat sexually lurid writer, and he said, "yeah, the teacher said that she was giving him to me because we weren't Christians and wouldn't care."
So?
There was also the sports banquet where they announced the track award, and we were sitting with my son's best friend's family- Muslims- and the coach announced the boy who won, and described him as the ideal- a hardworking, CHRISTIAN boy- and he said this several times.
It's this mentality that pervades, and I don't really believe it's malicious, but oh, it is there, and when you see it used against your children, you notice it.
Sounds like an old-fashioned guy, just using a figure of speech. Or maybe he was making a dig at the outspoken atheist kid. Either way, not a big deal imo.
