Whatever became of the plan of some Middle Eastern country to issue a gold-backed currency? What appears to be a world-wide drift towards nothing but fiat currencies--with no tangible backing of any sort--makes it very hard for ordinary people to keep score of what their savings really are. Maybe Americans are just ahead of the curve in refusing to save at all. There's no money worth saving.
