In a market based economy, you get ups and downs. You can get rid of these ups and downs, but only if you are willing to stop living in a market economy. I for one want to live in a market economy. Bad decisions should not be protected much less rewarded. I can see a role for the fed in protecting the market itself -- but not a role for the Fed in supplanting the market.
