what is the underlying purpose of the surge, what is the end game in iraq?

i have no doubt that we can continue to kill bad guys there for the next hundred years

we could also do that in somalia, darfur, north korea, iran, malaysia, indonesia, pakistan, the philippines, etc. they will line up to fight and kill us in all of those countries, just like in iraq

that is not the goal, the purpose of the surge is to provide some breathing room so that iraqi politicians can get their act together and show some sign that they have the will and ability to govern and secure their own country

they arent doing it, period, they are moving in the other direction, toward governmental meltdown
