Her representation of Islamic enslavery/subjugation is out of context and inapplicable for our culture in modern times and circumstances. She is talking about Islamic Government that existed in history and how groups of people who were hosted under those governments were dealt with in volatile times of Emperors, Kings, conquerers and and such

I am talking about Governments which implement Sharia, now, today! I am talking about Iran and Saudi Arabia and Afghanistan under the Taliban. Iran which has expelled nearly all its Jews and routinely murders Bahais for their religion. Saudia Arabia which makes illegal any religious practice but Islam and doesn't permit Jews to even visit. Jordan which doesn't allow a single Jew to live there, and Egypt that won't let Christians even repair their chapels, let alone build a new church. Governments which are indeed "inapplicable for our culture in modern times and circumstances" but unfortunately exist in the here and now.

I do not want to hear another speech about how great Islam was 1000 years ago. I will freely admit that the Muslim lands were better for minorities than Europe was - until about 400 years ago, when Europe made great advances and the Ottoman Empire began to stagnate and close itself off from outside influence.

It is a curiosity of history that Europe has always been hungry for new ideas from outside powers, but Muslim rulers can only absorb ideas from people they have conquered, and stopped assimilating new ideas when the Ottoman Empire stopped growing.
