Kazakhstan threatens to halt work at large oil field Kazakhstan's government is threatening to suspend one of the world's largest oil projects, due to environmental damage it says the work is causing in the Caspian Sea. The consortium developing the field includes Eni (ENI), Exxon Mobil (XOM), Royal Dutch Shell (RDS.A), ConocoPhillips (COP), and Total (TOT). Kazakhstan, whose threat is seen as a way for the government to strengthen its attempt to obtain more revenue from the project, is unlikely to actually halt the work. nytimes.com
