Far north SA gold drilling looks positive

An Australian mining company says positive drilling results could see a new gold mine established in South Australia.

The first drilling results from Southern Gold's joint venture with Dominion Mining were released yesterday, revealing high quality intersections of gold 30 kilometres from the Challenger mine in the state's far north.

The managing director of Southern Gold, Stephen Biggins, says the proximity to the existing mine makes the two deposits an attractive prospect.

"We believe that we are working in South Australia's richest gold field. Challenger is the only operating gold mine in South Australia and Southern Gold is drilling high-grade gold intersections close to that mine, so we think we're in a very good position," he said.
