Dubai: A policeman has received a suspended imprisonment for firing five bullets and endangering the lives of a young couple who were found guilty of having sex in a tinted car.

The Dubai Court of First Instance sentenced the 25-year-old Yemeni policeman, A.K., to a three-month suspended jail term for using his gun and firing at the vehicle of the UAE national couple, M.S., a 20-year-old male, and M.H., a 21-year-old female.

The national couple - who got married following the incident - were also sentenced to a one-month suspended jail term for having an illicit affair.

The court handed another policeman, M.M., a three-month suspended jail term for endangering the couples' lives by chasing and blocking their car. M.M. is a 27-year-old from Somalia.

A 30-year-old Yemeni police corporal, S.M., was acquitted of lying under oath for uncorroborated evidence.

His lawyer Eisa Bin Haidar, of Eisa Bin Haidar Group of Advocates and Legal Consultants, told the court: "My client didn't lie under oath. He gave in a true statement which matched with the prosecution witnesses' and the defendants' statements."

The court suspended the defendants' imprisonments because it is believed that they will not commit such acts again.

As reported earlier in Gulf News, a witness reported to police that he saw the 20-year-old forcing the girl into his car in Al Quoz area.

The girl said in her testimony that they had spent intimate moments in the car before the CID patrol chased them and endangered their lives. The criminal laboratory confirmed that several bullets hit the car.
