In WA state and in the DC metro area, $43K for a family of 4 is poverty level.

You seem to be assuming that all of those $43k or lower jobs represent the sole source of income for a family of four or larger. You should consider that the person with that job might have other sources of income, the family might have income besides the income from that one person, and also that many people who make that much, in expensive areas (and to a lesser extent even in cheaper areas) as the total household income don't have any kids.

Whether or not there is other income is not the issue......sure the kids can work or there may not be kids at all. The point is why isn't the economy producing better quality jobs that pay more?

Instead of defending what really isn't defensible, you need to start looking at why things are the way they are and what can be done to improve them. Too many people are relying on economic theories that don't work. Once you figure out what works and doesn't work, you go from there to build a model that works.

But to have people like yourself in a constant state of denial puts a huge drag on the process.
