"Jews did not chose to be Jews - they were chosen. Chosen by God. They do not proselytize for the most part, since it is God's "job" to chose who will be a Jew, not theirs."
My first introduction to religion was in the Presbyterian Church.
One of our tenets was that we were 'predestined'-- chosen by God. As a very small little girl this was a very comforting thought. As I moved from the sheltering wing of the church, I suddenly learned that there were others who believed they were chosen also.
Recognizing that others believe they are chosen has helped me to accept the good in other people and other religions and recognize that there are many who are chosen whether they be Catholic, Jews, Buddhists, Presbyterians, Baptist, Methodist, Holy Rollers, Unitarians, agnostics, Mormons to name some.
Philosophically, I cannot extend that same line of thinking to the Jihadist terrorist who likely believes they are chosen also by Allah. If so, then it would have to be they are chosen for ill and not for good. |
