I seem to recall that the justification for liberating Iraqis was the Bush Doctrine, which stated that we should not wait for threats to become imminent.

While there are some who would prefer to walk away from threats to their safety and assaults on others, doing so increases the risk of further risks. It is as inhumane to sentence people like the Iraqis were as it is to sentence dogs to be subjected to Michael Vick. Try as you might, I am unlikely to ever cease being empathetic to the needs of others and you are unlikely to quench my desire to help them.
