i think i'm going to dissent somewhat on the prison sentence being considered for vick

before anyone beats up on me as someone who doesn't love animals ( i do) i find it incredible that we can basically let women off who take shot guns to their sleeping husband's head, yet scream for prison time for a person who kills his live property....last i checked aren't animals considered 'personal property' of an owner? we've always had cruelty to animal statutes on the books, i would love to know how many people who abused animals (we've all heard the horror stories) were sent to federal prison?

i'm asking, smithee....you're the attorney here....

don't most of the people guilty of such behavior get hit with fines?

what purpose is served by sending vick to prison? wouldn't it be better to extract a huge fine, make him do community service, (for example, raising money for local humane societies?)

i really despise what he did with his dogs, but send him to prison? i don't think so
