don't think the "private property" angle is particularly apt.

really?

so if someone leaves antifreeze out in their yard in a bowl, and my dog dies as a result of drinking it, do i get to sue for millions as though it were my child?

everything i've ever read is that people who lose pets to someone else's negligence are lucky to retrieve dollar amounts based upon the dollar amount of the 'property lost'

so let's see you lost an irish setter?

what did you pay for your irish setter?

$500?

right...decision in favor of plaintiff.....pay the claimant for property loss....$500...oh and court costs

am i hopelessly out of date on this?
