I remember when I got my first transistor radio. I must have been 12 or 13. When the 9 volt battery got weak, we would stand by a pole that had a transformer at the top and the radio would begin to play loudly. If you walked away, it would fade. I forget the distance the induction worked to. It wasn't far, but to us kids it was a bit of magic.
