Good article. I'm not convinced, though. How would voter fraud at the polls be detected? The only way I know of would be if a person tried to vote, only to be told that their name had already been checked off as having voted. Then that person would have to prove they HADN'T voted, and lodge a complaint with the County Clerk. Who could then prove who it was that had voted in the 'real' voter's place?

That happened a lot in a county near here, and it always ended up being dropped, chalked up to either a simple mistake by an election volunteer checking off the wrong name, or worse, that the actual voter was then accused of trying to vote twice.

The worst case though, is corrupt election officials. I unregistered myself as a voter several years ago for just that reason. It was pretty clear that my vote didn't count when the county clerk of another county was changing the tabulations. I had a long talk with our county clerk, a friend of mine, and she allowed as how it could easily be done since there was never a physical audit of the electronically tabulated votes against the paper ballots. I don't know for sure, but I firmly believe that one of the Federal Attorneys Gonzoles fired was sitting on the investigation of that county clerk.
