I'm not arguing that its always desirable, only that its not something that needs to be stamped out at any cost.

You either make it subjective and decided by the thread moderator (which I don't think you want, and I know some others would not), or you need a consistent definition. I think that defining a day from one specific time to another specific time is best, and midnight to midnight is probably the easiest to understand.

Yes the example your talking about isn't one person posting on the evening on one day and the afternoon the next, but the rule you seem to be pushing would also catch such a person. Unless you think that's ok, than your idea for the rule is not ok.
